Diesel Fuel Spilled In Truck Accident

Diesel Fuel Spilled In Truck Accident

A fatal, head-on auto-accident took place in Chesterfield County, Virginia recently. The accident took place due to the wrong-way driving of a Saturn sedan, which was traveling northbound in a southbound lane. The vehicle struck a Nissan Altima. Additionally, a tractor trailer that was not able to stop before hitting the collision ended up swerving, jackknifing a wall, and sitting over the median, spilling diesel fuel. As a result of the accident, the sedan driver was killed and the Altima driver was severely injured. Authorities report that alcohol may have contributed to the sedan driver’s behavior.

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, wrong-way driving auto-accidents result in the death of around 300 to 400 people annually, making up for around 1% of traffic fatality deaths every year. These crashes are often very severe. Additionally, wrong-way driving is often done in relation to other illegalities, like driving while intoxicated. In fact, studies have shown that 8 out of 10 wrong-way driving auto-accidents are contributed to alcohol. Other factors that are commonly related to wrong-way driving auto-accidents are: lack of sign visibility and drowsiness. About 78% of wrong-way driving accidents occur from the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
