Xarelto is a blood thinner manufactured by Bayer and Johnson & Johnson's
Janssen Unit. It is used to decrease the risk of stroke and blood clots.
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Xarelto to
help treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), and
as a preventative treatment for strokes in patients with atrial fibrillation (A-Fib).
Xarelto is marketed to users as an alternative to Coumadin / Warfarin with
the benefit of not requiring blood testing or monitoring. There are over
4 million prescriptions written for Xarelto each year.
Xarelto Side Effects
While Xarelto has become a widely used medication, there has been a dramatic
increase in the number of adverse reports of harmful side effects. Some
reports have noted
uncontrollable bleeding, which can lead to hospitalization or death. Xarelto does not have an
antidote or reversal to stop bleeding events.
Meyerkord & Meyerkord, LLC is seeking cases where patients took the
blood thinning drug Xarelto and while taking Xarelto developed injuries
that required hospitalization, including:
- Severe or uncontrollable bleeding
- Internal bleeding, including gastrointestinal bleeding
- Blood in urine or stool
- Wrongful death
In the first three months of 2013, close to 700 serious adverse event reports
were associated with Xarelto. These side effects and other cases of irreversible
bleeding have prompted a number of lawsuits against Bayer. The lawsuits
allege that Bayer failed to ensure that Xarelto was safe to use as intended
and that the pharmaceutical company failed to adequately warn doctors
and consumers about risks.
At Meyerkord & Meyerkord, LLC, our legal team fights to protect the
rights of victims and families – and we have recovered
millions of dollars on their behalves. As a homegrown firm with a regional footprint, we have
the experience and resources to handle Xarelto claims
across the country.
