San Diego, California-based company Sony Electronics Inc. issued a recall of its VAIO Flip PC Laptop computers after finding that the product poses fire and burn hazards. Specifically, the recalled product, which was manufactured in China, has a lithium-ion battery that is susceptible to overheating. The recalled laptops were sold under model number SVF11N13CXS. The model number, as well as the serial number, can be found on a black label in white lettering on the underside of the screen. To access this label, consumers can open the laptop, move the switch to the release position and flip the display. The product was available for sale in silver, black or pink coloring. The folding touch screen measures approximately 11.6 inches diagonally. The VAIO logo is carved into the outer top of the laptop. Around 680 units are affected by this recall. The product retailed for around $800 and was sold nationwide at Sony retail stores as well as online at www.store.sony.com from February 2014 through April 2014. Although no injuries have been reported, Sony has received reports of four incidents of laptops overheating, causing the product to emanate smoke, catch on fire and melt. Consumers who may be in possession of this product should cease use immediately and contact the company for information about a free inspection and free repair or full refund.
