National attention has been turned towards Ferguson, Missouri, this weekend in the aftermath of an eighteen-year-old's death. The teen was fatally shot by a Missouri police officer after a confrontation. The details of what happened are not yet clear, but allegedly the teen got to the ground after being shot, and the police officer continued to shoot several more bullets. As of this time it is unknown if the teen had a weapon or not.

Several hundred people gathered at the scene after the event. The St. Louis County NAACP group is calling on the FBI for support in the investigation. The teen was an African American male, and he was shot in a primarily African American community. More context and details will need to be made clear to determine if the officer should not have fired at the boy. In the wake of the Treyvon Martin case, an increased national awareness has grown around gun deaths of young African American men. If the police officer was negligent in his shooting, St. Louis County, as his employer, could be potentially liable for a lawsuit by the teen's family.
