Frozen Green Beans Recalled Due to Listeria Scare

|

If you have recently purchased frozen green beans, it’s time to check your package. In addition, General Mills is recalling limited quantities of frozen green beans after a lot tested positive for listeria contamination. Likewise, the recall involved the following:

  • 10-ounce bags of Cascadian Farm Cut Green Beans
  • Better if Used By dates: April 10-April 11, 2016

No other Cascadian Farm products have been affected by the recall. Thus far according to General Mills, no adverse health reactions or illnesses have occurred from the recall.

Listeria is a bacterium that resists hot and cold temperatures. Those most susceptible to listeria are the elderly, pregnant women, the very young, and those with compromised immune systems. Each year in the U.S nearly 1,600 people are sickened by listeria, and of those 16% results in death. The largest recall this year due to listeria occurred at Blue Bell Creameries when four ice cream plants were shut down for cleaning and disinfection.
