Western Gas is issuing a propane recall due to possible fire and burn hazards. The company reported that the recalled propane may leak due to insufficient levels of odorant. They are recalling around 45.7 million galllons of propane and urging consumers to call their supplier or Western Gas directly to determine if their propane is affected. Consumers with portable cylinders can contact the retailer or the Western Gas hotline to determine if their units are affected. There have not been any injuries reported and the recalled propane was sold throughout several western states.
It is estimated that there are over 14,300,000 million residential propane customers and over 47,000,000 propane grill users. Each year 1 in 48,704 are injured in propane related accidents. This is an alarming statistic when so many consumers use and depend on propane. Safety is always the number one concern when working with or using a product that has been recalled. Always follow the product recall directions to ensure proper safety and minimize any chance of injuries. Sadly, injuries sustained due to recalled products can become very costly and stressful.
