Crash Involves Pedestrians

|

A two-car crash that took place on Saturday, December 2nd in Los Angeles, California turned fatal when pedestrians became involved. An eastbound Ford Explorer collided with a Kia Optima that was leaving a private driveway, causing the Kia to travel off of the road, onto the sidewalk, and into a wall. The Kia then collided with a tree, causing for it to fall down, then hitting a pedestrian and a light pole - which also fell down. The Kia driver, a 28 year old male, was severely injured. Additionally, the pedestrian, a female, was taken to seek medical care at a hospital, where she passed away. One adult and three children that were also in the Kia suffered injuries, which are reported to be moderate to severe. The Explorer driver, age 38, was minorly injured.

Crash-related pedestrian deaths are all too common in the U.S. According to the Center for Disease Control, in 2015, 5,376 pedestrians were killed in auto-accidents - meaning one fatality every 1.6 hours. When it comes to pedestrian safety, prevention is very important. When crossing the street, it is imperative that pedestrians cross at appointed crosswalks or intersections.
