Mother Causes Deadly DUI Crash With Her Child in Vehicle

|

On October 22, a 26-year-old woman caused an auto accident that claimed the lives of two people in Chandler, Arizona. The crash occurred on I-10 when the driver was traveling with her 3-year-old daughter in the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Her vehicle struck an SUV that led to a five vehicle pile up tragically causing the deaths of a 29-year-old woman and her 29-year-old fiance. After the accident, the driver was combatant with officers and other bystanders. She was arrested and charged with two counts of second degree murder, driving under the influence, and 10 other charges related to the crash. Her bond has been set at $500,000 and she remains in custody.

DUI accidents are responsible for 244 fatalities every year in Missouri alone, according to Mother’s Against Drunk Driving. Missouri is ranked 14th in the nation for leading drunk driving traffic accidents. MADD is pushing legislators in Missouri to improve the laws and requirements of police officers to decrease the amount of DUI accidents. A few ways that Missouri could improve is to require monthly sobriety checkpoints, require first offenders to have ignition interlocks, and criminalize refusing an alcohol test.
