California Nursing Home Suspected of Negligence

|

A nursing facility in Inglewood, California is under investigation for negligent care due to a patient being admitted to the hospital ICU department. The patient was transferred to the Centinela Skilled Nursing & Wellness Centre for recuperation and rehabilitation after being released from the hospital where she was being treated for a severe body infection. The family reported that they had visited the patient two days prior and she was in good spirits and was fine. When the family entered her room, she was sitting in a wheelchair and trembling uncontrollably, mumbling and eyes rolling back in her head. The nurse stated that she took her vitals and she appeared normal. The patient’s husband called 9-1-1 after the nurse could not get an ambulance to transport the patient to the hospital since the facility’s staff doctor could not be reached for approval. After being transported to the hospital, it was revealed the victim had suffered a bacterial intestinal infection, pneumonia, accelerated heart rate, 104-degree fever and a urinary tract infection.

Nursing home negligence is a serious problem across the United States. Many times understaffing and poorly trained employees are to blame for negligence. Unfortunately, many residents cannot defend or voice their concerns when it comes to mistreatment. Often family members are the ones who voice concerns regarding the care their loved ones are receiving. There can be many different forms of nursing home negligence such as emotional or social neglect, medical neglect, personal hygiene neglect, and basic needs neglect. A resident who is suffering from neglect can show behavioral changes, social changes, malnutrition, dehydration, bedsores and injuries from falls. Suspecting that your loved one is being neglected by a nursing home should result in contacting a personal injury attorney immediately. An experienced attorney will investigate your concerns and any complaints that were made to the facility.
