Parents Upset At Dangerous Bus Stop Location

|

A dangerous St. Louis school bus stop location has parents upset. The desolate stretch of road surrounded by vacant buildings is a school bus stop for KIPP-Wisdom Academy. A parent says she is upset a dangerous and unsafe location has been chosen for her son to wait for a school bus. The bus stop is located at 19th and North Market in north St. Louis. The stop is surrounded by overgrown grass, warehouses and boarded up buildings. The bus is owned and operated by First Student. An upset parent told a local news station that she tried calling the bus company and claims she got the runaround.

The KIPP System has stepped in and worked with First Student to relocate the bus stop. School officials say First Student places bus stops based on a student's addresses. The district promises to do everything they can to ensure the safety of every student. The district officials say a public place that’s well-trafficked with good crosswalks are safe and ideal locations for a bus stop. There are often challenges in the first few weeks of school that takes some time to iron out, says a district spokesperson. However, an upset parent said it took too long for the district to respond and it put her child in danger.
