Missouri Woman With Needle Lodged In Back Wins Medical Malpractice Lawsuit

|

A Missouri woman wins a medical malpractice lawsuit after a hypodermic needle was left in her back. The victim won a $507,000 judgment for having to live with a hypodermic needle lodged in her back for almost seven years.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, a St. Louis County jury sided with the Clayton plaintiff after a four-day trial last week. The plaintiff brought a medical malpractice lawsuit against a doctor and the Allied Physicians Group, LLC, in 2011. The doctor was with the Breakthrough Pain Relief Clinic in Chesterfield, which is now closed. The plaintiff accused the doctor of negligence during a 2009 injection treatment in which an inch-and-a-half needle was embedded in the victim’s back. The injection treatment was a standard medical procedure for bulging and degenerative discs.

According to the plaintiff’s attorney, all efforts to extract the needle have failed, leaving the woman to cope with the pain and suffering. An attorney for the doctor and Allied Physicians Group says his clients are disappointed with the verdict and will appeal.
