DUI Accident Claims The Life Of Kansas Deputy

|

A man has been charged in the death of a Kansas deputy after a DUI accident. According to Federal authorities, the DUI driver faces jail time and eventual deportation. The accused has a previous drunk driving conviction in California and is suspected of immigration violations. The Kansas City man is currently being held at a Johnson County jail on a $2 million bond. His charges stem from a drunk driving crash that killed a Johnson County Sheriff's Master Deputy. The deputy was making a routine traffic stop on Sunday when a pickup truck slammed into his stopped patrol car.

According to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the man is being sought if and when he is released from custody in Kansas. ICE states that the man faces deportation proceedings because of the 2001 DUI conviction in California. The ICE has not provided details on his immigration status. The public defender for the accused has not made any statements at this time as well.
