Single Vehicle Crash Results in Death

On Monday morning, a fatal vehicle accident occurred in Limerick, Maine, killing one person and injuring another. The one-car crash occurred on Burnham Road around 7:30 in the morning when the driver of the vehicle lost control. The car then smashed into a utility pole, causing for it to roll, ejecting both the driver and passenger from the vehicle.

Allegedly, both of the people that were riding in the car were not wearing their seatbelts. Also, officials believe speed contributed to the accident. Because of the use of seatbelts, around 15,000 deaths are prevented in vehicle accidents in the United States every year. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, in the case of an accident, a person is 30% more likely to be ejected from a vehicle if they are not wearing a seatbelt. Also, for those who are ejected from their vehicles, three out of every four pass away due to their injuries.
