A driver left a semi and fled on foot with two children after being involved in a hit and run with multiple vehicles in Daytona Beach. Midafternoon the driver of the semi hit three cars in an intersection before driving away from the scene. It was when law enforcement attempted to pull over the driver that a chase began and the officer could hear a child yelling for help from the inside of the semi.
As the officer continued to pursue the semi, the driver drove at excessive speeds running red lights and hit another vehicle in the process. Eventually, the driver ditched the truck taking the two children, 7 and 9-year-old later identified as his, with him and fleeing into a brushy area. Law enforcement rescued the children first returning them to their mother with little injury. The driver was later apprehended after being spotted by a helicopter. The incident led to the charges of two counts of hit-and-run with injuries, aggravate child abuse, and aggravated fleeing and eluding.
