One-Vehicle Accident Being Investigated

|

A fatal vehicle accident occurred in Moreau, New York recently when a driver in a Toyota Highlander who was headed northbound on Interstate 87 fell asleep while driving. The vehicle veered off and back onto the road before overturning. Tragically, one person was ejected and passed away. An additional five people were taken to receive medical care for their injuries, which were not severe. The accident is still under investigation for further information.

Drowsy driving is extremely dangerous, as it takes place when a driver operates a vehicle while fatigued. Even if a driver does not fall asleep at the wheel due to exhaustion, drowsiness can still affect a driver’s ability to safely operate a vehicle. For example, a drowsy driver is more likely to not have their full focus on the road, drift out of their lane of traffic, and have a slower reaction time. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drowsy driving caused about 72,000 vehicle accidents in 2013. If you or another driver finds themselves fatigued while operating a vehicle, take a break from driving to rest or find a different driver to operate the vehicle.
