St. Charles County has had a high number of fatal and serious injury accidents along a stretch of I-70. On April 4, MoDOT will implement a new Travel Safe Zone. The Travel Safe Zone will cover I-70 in both directions between Route A and Wentzville Parkway. This zone will be marked with signs to encourage motorists to drive the speed limit. MoDOT hopes to reduce the number of car crashes. The St. Charles County Police Department are also adding extra patrols along the dangerous stretch of road. The zone will be in place for at least a year.
MoDOT continues to target dangerous areas along Missouri highways. Even with their efforts, hundred are killed every year in Missouri. MoDot reports 766 people were killed and 4,657 were injured on Missouri roads in St. Charles in 2014.
