Another Police Officer Killed in Car Crash

|

A police deputy in Florida was killed in a car crash that occurred over the weekend. The 30-year-old Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Deputy was traveling on Selmon Expressway after working an investigation at a hospital. Tragically, a wrong-way driver was traveling east in the westbound lanes when his vehicle collided head-on with the officer's patrol car. The 31-year-old driver died at the scene of the crash and the deputy was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The authorities did not indicate if alcohol or drugs caused the crash.

Auto accidents caused by reckless driving are one of the most common types of accidents. Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is one of the most negligent and careless examples of reckless driving that cause thousands of deaths every year. However, distracted driving, aggressive driving, and fatigued driving can be just as dangerous. Distracted driving has increased over the past several years, and many officials believe it is in correlation to the technological advancements directly related to cell phones. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that texting is six times more dangerous than drunk driving.
