A young man is dead after a fatal tractor-trailer accident in Greenfield, Illinois on Wednesday night. The accident shut down the highway for nearly six hours. A 23-year-old Greenfield man was traveling southbound on IL-267 when his SUV crossed the centerline and struck a northbound tractor-trailer near 1400 N. After sideswiping the tractor-trailer, the young man’s SUV left the road and caught fire. Emergency responders including the Greenfield Fire Department, Rockbridge EMS, and Greene County Sheriff’s Office were called to the scene of the fatal crash. The young man was pronounced at the scene of the crash by a Greene County Coroner. The crash is under investigation by The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Unit. The tractor-trailer driver was unharmed.
