A deadly stretch of Highway 61 has the Missouri Department of Transportation making needed safety improvements on the 15 mile stretch of road. MoDOT reports an auto accident occurs every two days on a particular area of highway 61, between I-70 and the Troy exit. MoDOT is planning to install cable barriers along with removing the cross-overs. A fatal car crash on this stretch of road left a mother and her two children dead. Their car was struck and pushed into oncoming traffic. Many say the accident could have been prevented by cable barriers. Accidents like these have pressured MoDOT to move forward with the unfunded plan, which would cost $5 - $6 million.
Even with safety measures taken by our transportation department, the misconduct and negligence of motorist continue to reign havoc on Missouri roadways.
