Mail Carrier Hospitalized After A Vicious Hornet Attack

|

A U.S. Postal Service worker was attacked and seriously injured by a swarm of hornets while on her suburban Chicago route this past Tuesday. The mail carried was on her route in Wheaton when she was stung between 30 to 50 times near her head and neck. According to a U.S. Postal Service spokesperson, the mail carrier was hospitalized for her injuries at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. She is expected to recover. A resident witnessed the attack and called 911. The witness claims the woman was screaming and under distress and asked for emergency help. Residents say it is possible the nearby landscaping work stirred up the hornet's’ nest. The hornets were cleared by an exterminator a day later. The Postal Service asks residents to work together to keep mail carriers safe.
