Las Vegas DUI Accident Causes Death

A DUI accident overnight Tuesday resulted in the death of one woman in Las Vegas. Authorities worked for most of the day on Wednesday investigating the accident and removing debris in a busy intersection that was closed for several hours. According to police, a 33-year-old male was speeding in a stolen GMC Yukon running several red lights before slamming into a Nissan Sentra at the intersection of Rainbow Blvd. and Spring Mountain Rd. The impact was severe causing both vehicles to overturn and land just feet away from gas pumps at a gas station. The driver of the GMC was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries and will soon be charged with DUI, as well as other charges for the stolen vehicle and other evidence found inside the SUV. The investigation is ongoing.

Drunk driving accidents are responsible for 28 deaths each day in the United States, according to Mother’s Against Drunk Driving. In addition to the thousands of deaths, DUI accidents also injure victims every two minutes. There is a multitude of statistics and risk associated with driving under the influence, yet, millions of individuals commit the crime regularly. An individual arrested for DUI will face harsh punishment; however, the average driver operates their vehicle intoxicated nearly 80 times prior to their first arrest.
