Tractor-Trailer Accident Closes San Antonio Roadway

|

A tractor-trailer accident occurred during the early hours of Tuesday causing a San Antonio roadway to be closed for several hours. According to the San Antonio Police Department, a tractor-trailer jackknifed, struck a concrete median and then collided with two other vehicles at around 2 a.m. The accident occurred on the Eastbound Loop 1604 and the impact forced a car down an embankment. The driver of that car suffered non-life threatening injuries and she was transported to the hospital for treatment. The roadway was closed for approximately six hours while authorities cleared debris and investigated the crash.

Auto accidents involving commercial vehicles often have severe and deadly results. Tractor-trailer accidents cause property damage, serious injuries, and death due to the fact that the trucks can weigh up to 80,000 pounds. In nearly every tractor-trailer accident negligence caused the crash. Mechanical defects, distracted driving, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and fatigued driving are common causes of tractor-trailer accidents. Fatigued driving is a serious issue amongst commercial drivers because, in order to increase profits for the trucking company and the driver, it is necessary to drive the trucks. However, laws have been established to prevent a driver from becoming fatigued by restricting them from operating the vehicle for more than allotted number of hours. Unfortunately, these traffic laws are broken regularly resulting in a crash.
