Playworld Systems Inc., the manufacturer of stainless steel playground slides, has recalled around 1,300 slides due to amputation hazards. The company reported that two children had suffered finger amputations due to the defect product with 13 incidents of broken welds on the slides. The product is being recalled due to broken welds that hold the sidewalls and the bedway together on the slide. These welds can crack and separate which can catch children’s fingers and pose an amputation hazard for them. The company advises customers to stop using the slides and contact the company directly for a free replacement and free installation for the slide. They will also ship a temporary barrier to prevent children from using the defective product until the new one is put in place. The company is also contacting consumers who have purchased the slides directly. These were sold by independent distributors to parks, municipalities, and schools from November 2000 through October 2016.
Product liability laws are in place to protect consumers from defective products. Manufacturers, distributors, and retailers have a responsibility to design, make and sell safe products to consumers. Often, products are not recalled until injuries have happened and been reported directly to the company. Anyone injured due to a defective product will be subject to medical bills, stress, and can even suffer from lost wages from work. Contacting a product liability lawyer is essential if you have sustained any type of injury from a faulty or defective product. An experienced lawyer can determine if you have grounds to pursue legal action and compensation from the company responsible for the faulty product.
