On Thursday evening, a fatal train accident occurred when a Metrolink train collided with a motorcycle in California. The California Highway Patrol reported that at around 6 p.m., the westbound train struck the motorcycle close to Las Posas Road and Fifth Street near the town of Camarillo. Tragically, the impact caused the death of a female passenger on the bike, and the male driver was critically injured and taken to the hospital. The collision occurred at a railroad crossing and the front of the train’s camera recorded the accident. The investigation is ongoing by both the California Highway Patrol and Metrolink.
Train accidents are certainly the most devastating of all auto accidents due to the force of the impact between the train and another vehicle. The massive vehicle weighs thousands of pounds and travels and high rates of speed resulting in a collision that is mostly fatal. The majority of train accidents occur at railroad crossings where there are inadequate warning devices and signals. That type of accident could place the liability with the railroad company. Other parties responsible for a train accident could include the train conductor, engineers, controllers, or the driver of the vehicle. A complete investigation should always be conducted to properly determine the cause and party responsible for all auto accidents.
