Three Tractor-Trailers Involved in Crash Closes I-44

|

An auto accident involving three tractor-trailers had crews scrambling to clean up debris in order to reopen Interstate 44 on Thursday. As traffic slowed near the exit for Highway 50, one tractor-trailer rear-ended another causing the truck to jackknife and collide with a third tractor-trailer. The trucks were transporting hazardous material and burst into flames upon impact. The accident happened at around 12:45 p.m. and workers were able to reopen the interstate about three hours later, with the exception of one lane that requires repairs. The Missouri State Highway Patrol did not indicate of the drivers were injured and the investigation is ongoing.

Tractor-trailer accidents are some of the most deadly types of auto accidents that occur due to the large size and weight of the vehicles. While not all tractor-trailer accidents are caused by the drivers' negligent actions, drivers are to blame for a large portion of these accidents. Operating a vehicle for a living is very difficult. An individual starts to become inattentive, distracted and fatigued after a number of hours on the roadway that can increase the likelihood of a crash. To determine if the truck driver, trucking company, truck manufacturer, or all of the above are responsible for your accident, it is important to contact a skilled auto accident attorney.
