Workplace accidents are the cause of thousands of deaths and many more injuries in the United States. Even some of the safest occupations pose risks that could lead to a work-related injury or death. In Missouri, all companies that employ five or more workers, and nearly all construction companies, are required by law to carry worker’s compensation insurance. The insurance provides injured workers compensation for medical expenses and lost wages if time off work is required. However, the lost wages are only replaced at a rate of 66.6% of the worker’s average wage that can cause workers to suffer financially.
