Fatal Illinois Crash Caused by Vehicle Breakdown

Tuesday evening in Illinois near St. Louis, Missouri a fatal crash occurred after a car broke down on Interstate 55 near the Poplar Street Bridge. The crash happened when 53-year-old, Mark Morris’ vehicle ran out of gas on I-55 near milepost 3. When Morris stopped his vehicle on the shoulder of the road, he left nearly 18 inches of his car still in the roadway.

Likewise, another vehicle heading in the same direction broke down in the lane next to Morris’ car. As Morris attempted to look under the hood of the broken down car next to him, a third vehicle hit the back of the parked cars. Sadly, Morris was thrown about 200 feet and was killed at the scene. Three lanes of I-55 were shut down for hours following the fatal accident. Thus far, no one has been cited in the accident.
