Aggravated DUI Kills One, Injures Three

|

Around 1 p.m. on Thursday, an 18-year-old woman was picked up by her father in Chicago. As she entered the vehicle, she noticed that her father and his male passenger seemed to be under the influence of drugs. She had experienced encounters with her father using drugs, including PCP, and insisted on driving the vehicle herself. The 35-year-old father did not allow his daughter to drive and continued to operate the vehicle while mumbling and blacking out.

The man continued to travel along Pulaski Street reaching speeds in excess of 65 mph and driving erratically, causing the vehicle to swerve all over the roadway. As the vehicle continued out of control, the driver struck a 41-year-old man crossing the street and then crashed into two parked vehicles. The pedestrian was killed and both the drivers' daughter and the passenger sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital. The driver was also treated for minor injuries at the hospital.

The driver has been charged with felony aggravated DUI and his bond is set at $500,000. Authorities ordered him to forego blood tests that confirmed he had marijuana, cocaine, and PCP in his system. The man is no stranger to run-ins with the law, considering he has been convicted of five prior felonies and was operating his vehicle on a revoked drivers' license.
