California Police Officer Shoots Dog That Bites Her

A Richmond, California police officer shot and killed a dog after it turned on her, and bit her. Furthermore, the dog that was shot was a part of the police department’s K-9 unit. The dog bite accident happened on Tuesday, and the officer, Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said she acted in self-defense.

The dog was a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, and the accident took place early in the morning. After the dog bite incident, Abetkov was taken to nearby hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. The dog suffered critical injuries and is currently expected to survive.

Abetkov is not the dog’s regular handler and is the animal is a four-year veteran of the department. It is not clear what caused the dog to bite the officer, but an investigation is pending. It is presumed that the dog was caged in a vehicle but got out and bit the officer.
