Dog Treats Recalled Due to Salmonella

A Colorado-based company has recalled some of their dog treats due to possible salmonella contamination. In addition, The Natural Dog Company is recalling 12 oz bags of 12 inch Tremenda Sticks after an inspection tested positive for the presence of Salmonella. Salmonella infection can sicken the dogs that eat the treats as well as the humans handling the treats. People can become infected with Salmonella after touching the treats and not washing his or her hands. The following symptoms are common for those infected with Salmonella:

  • Fever
  • Bloody diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Malaise

Thus far no illnesses have been reported with the recall. The recalled products were only distributed to the following states:

  • California
  • Colorado
  • Florida
  • Illinois
  • Missouri
  • Montana
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio
  • Utah
  • Washington

All production of the product has been suspended pending an FDA investigation.
