A Fairview Heights medical facility, The Heart Care Group, and one of their physicians have been named as defendants in a medical malpractice lawsuit. The Heart Care Group and Dr. Michael J. Fleissner have been accused by the plaintiff, John M. Beatty, of failing to adequately treat him for his heart problem. The lawsuit claims that in August of 2013, a pacemaker was installed in Beatty in an attempt to treat arterial fibrillation. Despite Beatty complaining of chest pain and pressure during his follow-up appointment, Fleissner released him from his care. The chest pain did not subside and in November of 2013, Beatty went to the hospital and underwent another procedure to pericardial effusion. The complaint accuses Fleissner, and The Heart Care Group, of failing to perform appropriate follow-up procedures, such as echocardiograms. The defendants are denying the allegations, and Beatty is seeking more than $50,000 in compensation, plus costs accumulated from the case.
