Two IL Veterans Die From Legionnaires’ Disease

In Quincy, Illinois two residents of a veterans home have died ofLegionnaires’ disease. Furthermore, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health both residents both had underlying medical conditions, yet the victims were among 23 more people diagnosed with Legionnaires’. On Thursday, IL state officials confirmed eight more cases of Legionnaires’ inside the veterans home, and as of Friday that number increased to 23.

Legionnaires’ disease is a severe case of pneumonia, which includes inflammation of the lungs, which is usually caused by an infection. In addition, the infection is not transferred from person to person; inhaling Legionella bacteria causes the disease. An investigation of the veterans home is pending.
