Truck Drove Off Bridge And Landed On Festival Crowd

Four people died, and several others were hurt when a pickup truck drove off a bridge and fell onto a crowd during a festival in San Diego. According to the authorities in San Diego, the driver of a pickup lost control of his truck on a highway bridge and plunged 60 feet into a park where people were gathered for a biker festival. According to Police, a 25-year-old Navy member stationed at Naval Base Coronado was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence causing death. He remains hospitalized in serious condition.

A California Highway Patrol Officer said it was a horrific accident and four people were pronounced dead at the scene, and seven others were injured and hospitalized. A festival was underway in Chicano Park called La Raza Run, which is an annual motorcycle ride from Los Angeles to San Diego. The festival can draw more than 1,000 bikers and features food, music, art and vendors.

Witnesses say a truck crashed nose first onto a vendor's table where people had crowded around to sell and buy merchandise. One witness said the driver had his cellphone in his hand when the truck landed. Festival goers rushed to help lift the pickup truck off the victims. The names of the deceased have not been released, but witnesses say it was two people running a vendor and two bikers looking at merchandise. The suspect has been charged and will be released into police custody after discharged from the hospital.
