Trucking Company Sued After Fatal Crash

Trucking Company Sued After Fatal Crash

A lawsuit has been filed by three Tennessee Department of Transportation workers against a truck driver and the trucking company after a deadly crash this past April. The lawsuit claims damages of $18 million after a fatal crash that killed a Tennessee Department of Transportation worker and injured three others. The accident took place in Hickman County when a truck driver veered off the road and crashed into the crew working on the side of I-40. The 65-year-old worker was killed, and three other TDT workers were seriously injured. The lawsuit was filed against Spirit Truck Lines of Texas and the truck driver. The details of the suit claim the truck driver kept inaccurate logbooks to manipulate and intentionally break federal trucking laws. Spirit Truck Lines has a track record of keeping inaccurate logs, noting drivers had been cited 66 times in the last two years for violating hours of service laws. The suit also alleges that the truck driver was swerving on the road and may have been tired or distracted. The widow of the deceased has also filed a multi-million dollar suit against the company.
