Five Children Struck in Pedestrian Accident

Five Children Struck in Pedestrian Accident

On Tuesday afternoon, a pedestrian accident involved five children after they were all struck by a vehicle. The accident happened near the Dan F. Long Middle School in Dallas, Texas at around 4:30 p.m. According to investigators, the five children, between the ages of 10 and 12, were attempting to cross Kelly Boulevard when they darted out in front of a vehicle. Fortunately, that driver was initially able to stop without hitting the kids, but that vehicle was then rear-ended by another vehicle. The impact of the collision caused the first vehicle to strike all of the children. Two of the kids were taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation and it is unknown if any citations will be issued.

Pedestrian safety is important for all individuals, especially children. While children are taught to look both ways before crossing the street, there are extra measures that should be taken to prevent a pedestrian accident. Wearing reflective clothing, traveling in well-lit areas, and utilizing crosswalks and sidewalks when available can help a pedestrian avoid a collision with a vehicle. However, reckless driving is one of the most common causes of pedestrian accidents and places even the safest pedestrian at risk of an injury or death.
