Measles outbreak continues to rise

What is supposed to be one of the happiest places on earth is slowly turning into the scariest places due to a measles outbreak. Furthermore, a measles outbreak, which began in Disneyland in California is infecting people as far as Mexico by vacationing families. Currently, four-dozen people in four states have been diagnosed with the illness, and all were recently at Disneyland or the nearby Disney California Adventure Park. Additionally, those at risk are people who are unvaccinated, and is being spread by family members who were exposed on vacation. Likewise, it is noted that this recent measles outbreak could be one of the worst since 1989.

In 2000, measles was thought to be eradicated from the United States, and no longer able to spread easily and quickly like a common cold. Moreover, according to the CDC, 628 people were diagnosed in the United States last year. Many parents in recent years have been reluctant to vaccinate children due to the fear of increased autism, yet the measles vaccine is considered one of the oldest and safest of all dating back 50 years. Some of the symptoms of measles include:

• Fever

• Rash

• Cough

• Runny nose

• Red eyes

Currently, there is no treatment for patients with measles other than keeping them comfortable and hydrated.
