Paramedics were called to Little Lady Foods in Elk Grove, Illinois Saturday morning when a worker was trapped under a forklift. At around 8:20 a.m., the 60-year-old employee walked out of an office onto a loading dock where a forklift was preparing to load a truck. The forklift ran over the man trapping his legs from the knees down under the machine. Workers failed at trying to lift the forklift off of the man. Emergency workers were able to free him with the use of jacks and wood blocks that lifted the machine enough to slide the employee out. He remains hospitalized with injuries that will alter his life. Little Lady Foods commented on the work-place accident, stating it was under investigation.
In Missouri, companies who employ five or more employees are required by law to purchase workers' compensation insurance. Fortunately, injured workers are entitled to the insurance benefits without having to prove another person caused the accident because it is considered a "no-fault insurance." Those injured receive all the medical treatment required to recover and are provided compensation for lost wages. However, the compensation one can receive is calculated at a rate of 66.6% of the workers' average weekly wage. For most workers, it could be stressful and leave them struggling to make ends meet. Contacting a workers' compensation attorney can help relieve the financial burden of not receiving all of your wages by filing a claim to receive the maximum compensation for your lost wages.
