Takata faces $14,000 a day fine over faulty airbags

What would you do if you were driving your vehicle, and your airbags suddenly deployed? Chances are you would either be greatly injured, or cause an accident. Likewise, the airbag maker, Takata is being fined over faulty airbags by the Transportation Department. In addition, the airbag makers are facing $14,000 a day fines due to the failure to cooperate during a safety probe which has cause at least five deaths thus far.

The daily fine for Takata starts today, and the NHTSA has given them a reasonable amount of time to collect documents and data, which they are legally obligated to do. It is estimated that if the fine continues for an entire year, the total would be $5.1 million. Recently Honda was fined $70 million in January for failing to report all accident information as well. Only time will tell if Takata will follow suit behind Honda.
