GM faulty ignition switch death toll raises to 57

The death toll relating to the faulty ignition switches in GM vehicles continues to grow. Likewise, as of today, the new total of deaths related to the recall is now 57, which is one higher than last week. Currently, there are death claims towards GM relating to injury and death as a result of the ignition switches. The deadline for consumers to file a claim was January 31, and GM compensation expert, Kenneth Feinberg are checking claims filed or postmarked by the date to determine eligibility.

Each eligible claim that results in death is worth at least $1 million under the guidelines. In addition, last week Feinberg received 479 death claims, and another 3,866 injury. Thus far 94 injury claims will receive compensation, which was only a total of 87 a week ago. Overall, Feinberg has received a total of 4,345 claims, which 666 are deemed ineligible; he's still going through the remainder.
