Car crashes into building in Belleville

Two people were injured Wednesday night after their car crashed into a building just off Main Street in Belleville, Illinois. The accident happened at the corner of East Main Street and North Douglas Avenue when the vehicle missed the curve and hit the side of a brick building. The car also hit a traffic light and protective barrier before it struck the side of the building. Both the driver and passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, and are expected to make a full recovery.

The lower part of the building, which was hit, is a business, and the upper portion is a home residence. Furthermore, Jill and Bob DeFrates have lived in the home for 30 years, and although this isn't the first time a car struck their building, it certainly was the worse. Likewise, the DeFrates were watching television when they heard a loud thud, the house shook, and they were completely unaware of what had taken place. In addition, the DeFrate's daughter which lives nearby on A Street also heard the loud impact of the crash as well. Luckily the DeFrates were uninjured in the crash, and EMS workers rescued both unharmed. Temporary support poles were placed on the building temporarily to avoid having the corner collapse.
