Meyerkord, Meyerkord & Kurth, LLC: A Legacy of Legal Innovation
An East St. Louis trucking company and one of its drivers were recently sued over the death of an Effingham man. The incident that led to this lawsuit reportedly occurred on July 25, 2014 when a truck driver was traveling in a Beelman-owned tractor-trailer east on Route H near the intersection with state Highway 51 in Perry County. The deceased male on behalf of whom the lawsuit was filed, was reportedly driving south on Highway 51 near the same intersection. The truck driver allegedly failed to yield to a stop sign, made an illegal left turn, pulled into the Effingham man's lane of travel and collided with his vehicle, according to court documents. The Effingham man was killed in the accident. This lawsuit was brought on behalf of the man who was killed on August 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Beelman Truck Company of Hammond, Ind., and the individual truck driver. The lawsuit alleges both the truck driver and the owner of the tractor-trailer, Beelman Trucking Company, of negligence. The lawsuit asks for more than $100,000 in damages for funeral costs, grief and sorrow.
