A Louisiana woman has been sentenced to thirty years in prison for driving while intoxicated and killing three people, including a woman who was six months pregnant. The 42-year-old woman was charged and pleaded guilty to three counts of vehicular homicide, one count of first degree vehicular negligent injuring and one count of third degree feticide. She has also been ordered to receive drug and alcohol treatment while in prison.
The accident occurred in May of 2013 when the driver had a blood alcohol level that was twice the legal limit and had amphetamines and cocaine in her system. She was driving westbound when she lost control and drove over the median striking a vehicle traveling eastbound. The driver and a passenger, who was pregnant, were killed along with the passenger in the drunk drivers' vehicle.
