Four Southern Illinois University students were traveling in a small sedan Saturday afternoon in Edwardsville, when their vehicle was struck by a large SUV. The accident occurred at the intersection of Governor's Parkway and Plum Road and the busy intersection was closed for over an hour. Two of the students were airlifted to a St. Louis hospital for serious injuries and another student was transported via ambulance to the hospital in Maryville. The passengers in the SUV were not injured. The accident is still under investigation, but authorities are speculating that the sedan turned in front of the SUV.
The majority of accidents throughout the calendar year occur in the summer months and around the holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas. The reason for this is more drivers are on the roads during these times. Thousands of individuals are injured in accidents that could have been prevented. Driving distractions, aggressive driving, and driving under the influence are some of the factors that cause accidents. Contacting an auto accident lawyer is imperative in holding the at-fault driver responsible and recovering the maximum compensation.
