An Oak Park, Illinois truck maintenance garage caught fire after a propane tank exploded, injuring four employees. The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon when the workers attempted to replace a propane tank on a truck that they believed to be empty. The propane tank was actually full and shot into the air. The brick building collapsed due to the explosion and a fire ignited. The accident is currently under investigation, but officials believe the building is a total loss. Three of the four injured workers were treated and released at local hospitals. The other worker is being treated for burns.
Missouri law requires businesses with five or more employees to carry workers' compensation insurance. Worker's compensation insurance provides benefits to employees to help them receive as much medical treatment as needed and to assist with lost wages. Unfortunately, the wage replacement rate is 66.6% of the worker's average weekly wage. Contacting an attorney to handle a case for a work related injury is the best way to make up the difference in lost wages and help ensure every aspect of your claim is fully investigated and handled properly.
