Last week was tragic following a horrific crash in Mascoutah, Illinois that killed a mother, and seriously injured her daughter. The fatal accident happened late in the afternoon on Wednesday on Route 4 when a vehicle heading south crossed over the center lane. The vehicle that crossed over into oncoming traffic was driven by, 61-year-old, Donald Mueller, and he hit Well’s car head-on. It is presumed that Mueller fell asleep at the wheel before crossing the center line. Thus, Mueller was ticketed for driving in the wrong lane. As a result, the driver and mother of the back seat passenger, Robin Wells was killed from injuries sustained in the crash. Furthermore, 9-year-old, Melody Wells who was in the back seat remains in critical condition, and the family needs help paying for medical costs. Melody suffered broken legs, and broken ribs in the crash and is a special needs child which makes for an even more stressful financial situation. On a brighter note, as of this weekend she was able to eat an entire pancake by herself as hopeful signs of improvement waiver in such a dark time.
A fund has been set up in which the Well’s family is trying to raise $25,000 through a You Caring webpage. To date, about $4,300 has been donated, thus far, by the public. Understandably Melody has had a hard time to cope with the sudden loss of her mother. As one family member put it, both mom and daughter were each others worlds. Robin Wells was a stay at home mom dedicated to helping her down’s syndrome daughter progress, and did a wonderful job at doing so.
