Deputy killed by semi in North Carolina

Friends and family gathered for the funeral of Union County Sheriff's Deputy, Jeffrey Greene in Monroe, North Carolina on Saturday. Tragically the prior Wednesday on Highway 74, a tractor-trailer flipped on top of Greene's squad car, crushing him inside the vehicle. At the time of the accident, the semi was going west on 74, swerved to avoid a collision with another tractor-trailer going the same direction and instead jackknifed, and hit Greene's vehicle.

When Greene was taken from underneath the crushed vehicle, everyone around quickly stopped and prayed for the Deputy. Sadly, the prayers were not enough to save Greene, and he died from his injuries. Greene is remembered as a well-known and well-liked man of his community, and will be missed by all who knew him. The driver of the semi is currently charged with misdemeanor death by a vehicle.
