Ford Recalls 1.6 Million Vehicles

Meyerkord & Kurth, LLC: A Legacy of Legal Innovation

Earlier this week Ford Motor Company issued a voluntary recall of 1.39 million small and full-size SUVs due to power steering issues. The vehicles affected are 2008 through 2011 model year Ford Escapes and Mercury Mariners and full-sized Explorers in model years 2011 through 2013. Additionally, the company also recalled 200,000 Taurus sedans, 2010 through 2014 model years due to corrosion issues as well as 82,576 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr and MK sedans, 2006 through 2011 model years due to floor mat and acceleration pedal problems. Reportedly, the steering issue associated with the bulk of the recall has been under investigation internally since 2009. Ford issued a repair kit addressing the problem in January 2014, which was prompted after a Canadian investigation. Thus far, there has been 5 accidents and 6 people injured as a result of the steering problem. The steering issues can result in no power steering, making it very hard to turn the wheel and thus a greater chance for an accident.
