According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, eight people died as a result of traffic crashes over the Memorial Day weekend. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that there were 295 traffic crashes, which included 130 injuries and eight fatalities as well as 146 arrests for driving while intoxicated between 6pm Friday and 11:59pm Monday. Those numbers are up from last year during the Memorial Day Weekend when troopers investigated 274 crashes, which included 119 injuries and six fatalities as well as 129 people arrested for driving while intoxicated. Of the eight people who lost their lives in car crashes over the weekend, none of them were wearing seatbelts. Three of the crash fatalities occurred in the Weldon Spring area, two in the Springfield area, and one in Poplar Bluff, Jefferson City and Rolla areas. Two of the fatalities occurred on Friday, three fatalities occurred Saturday, two on Sunday and the last fatality occurred on Monday. The ages of the individuals who died ranged from 17-years-old to 66-years-old.
