A single-vehicle car crash in Roxana, Illinois claimed the life of a 44-year-old male early Monday morning. The 44-year-old male from Wood River, Illinois was found early Monday morning by a passerby. According to the Madison County Coroner, the 44-year-old male was traveling in a Chevy Astro van west on Illinois Route 143 in Roxana when the incident occurred. At some point, the man is believed to have veered off the road and struck the center concrete support to the Interstate 255 overpass. The man's vehicle reportedly caught fire shortly thereafter. Although there were no witnesses to the actual crash, the 44-year-old was discovered by an onlooker around 4:30 a.m. Emergency personnel responded to the scene of the accident and the 44-year-old from Wood River was pronounced dead at the scene. The initial autopsy report revealed that the man died from blunt force trauma to the head, chest and abdomen. Local police are still investigating the accident and toxicology tests are ongoing.
