Heath officials have traced recent salmonella outbreaks back to Mt. Heathy Hatcheries in Ohio for the fourth year. The most recent outbreaks occured in Vermont, but salmonella has been traced to the hatchery from other states as well.
The salmonella outbreak from the hatchery has been traced to baby chicks, and has recently sickened five people living in Vermont. Of the five affected, four were children. The Vermont Department of Health has not released anymore information regarding the outbreak, but they are working with other state health departments, the Department of Agriculture, and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to investigate further.
